Bathtub Refinishing & Other Bathroom Updates - Arlington Heights, IL

Dec 13

Bathrooms get outdated after a decade or so. Luckily, there are a number of things you can do to spruce up the bathroom quickly and affordably.

Reglazing Tile

When tile becomes dingy, loses its luster or simply has an out of style color, you can reglaze it. If the tile is still in good condition without cracks and it’s not falling off, then reglazing is a great option because it allows you to refresh all of the tiles for far less than the cost of replacement. Reglazing tile is a process that should be done by a professional; someone who does this for a living and is highly experienced with all the right equipment. It requires specialized coating products and spraying equipment. The process includes several steps to get the job done right so that the coating stays for years.

Towel Reorganizing

If the storage in your bathroom is non-existent, you can hang shelves and a small towel rack on the walls or behind the door to solve that problem without much of the budget or a lot of work on. Make sure to use anchors during hanging for a strong hold. You can use the shelves for storing folded towels and to hang up towels before and after showering.

Bathtub Refinishing

If your tub is dingy brown and has some visible wear, you can find a bathtub refinishing professional can refinish this fairly affordably. Refinishing your tub is like giving it a total facelift. The company will come out to your house and handle the whole project in a day. They usually start with a deep cleaning to clear away dirt, grime and lime buildup. Then, they’ll fix minor issues with the tub, like scratches and chips. Following that, they’ll etch up the surface with an acid wash that allows the commercial coating to adhere to it. Finally, they reglaze the tub with a paint-like substance that needs about a day to fully try.

Replace Vanity Cabinet

This in theory should be a pretty simple task. However, as with most things in a house, the plumbing and location of the pipes in a bathroom can make it a bit trickier. Be sure to measure where everything is before buying the vanity so you can be sure it will fit right. The fun part is shopping for the vanity. Updating the vanity goes a long way in making a bathroom look more modern.

Replace Mirror

Mirrors don’t last forever. Sometimes the paint or finish on the frame chips, sometimes the mirror itself can get chipped. Also, mirrors will look dated after a while. Updating the mirrors above the vanity are a really affordable way to makeover your bathroom on a budget.

Paint

By far the cheapest easiest way to change a space is to paint it. Slap on a few fresh coats of new paint in the color of your style and it really brightens everything up. Don’t skimp on the primer though, it seems like more work but really makes the final coat that much easier and cleaner.

Floor

If the existing tile in the bathroom is in good shape you can cover it with peel and stick tile. The designs have come a long way from the 80’s & 90’s stuff but still really economical. Don’t forget to start at the tub and work your way out and like I always say, measure twice cut once!

Just doing few of these things or all of them should be fairly easy to get done in a couple weekends but will make a huge difference in an outdated bathroom.
